How Can We Help You?

Bokeelia, FL

You can either use a smaller flats boat or a kayaking in the sheltered waters of Matlacha Pass and the Pine Island Sound Aquatic Preserve. Then there is the Cayo Costa Island State Park. Fish near the Matlacha Drawbridge in moving tides. There are also large stretches of cruising grounds between the Caloosahatchee River and Gasparilla Island.

At 17 miles long and 2 miles wide, Pine Island (in Lee County) is the largest island on Florida’s west coast. The island is located near Cape Coral and Ft. Myers and also near Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). Mangroves reside on Pine Island’s shorelines rather than white sand beaches, Pine Island’s current legislation prohibits high-rise development which should preserve it’s unique, rural island culture for the foreseeable future.

The large shorelines of Pine Island are covered in thick mangroves. The mangroves provide a safe haven for large schools of inshore fish. You can easily maneuver your boat at a safe casting distance as you navigate the coastline. It’s easy to fish from the beaches of our barrier islands: Sanibel, Captiva, Upper Captiva and Cayo Costa (a Florida State Park). There are many hot pots located at either end of the island, including St. James City or Bokeelia. Even though it’s often thought of as the “off-season”, you may want to consider planning your fishing trip in the summertime to avoid the windy winter days falling in January through March. It’s often less crowded and the vacation rentals offer discounted pricing.
