Tuna is one of the most popular eatable fish. You can get it in a can, a pouch, as individual servings w/ crackers, frozen and even fresh from your local grocery. However, nothing beats a freshly caught tuna with your own hook. Tuna, when properly cleaned and cut, can provide several hearty steaks. Marinating some of these steaks will elevate their flavor to the next level. Marinating your tuna steaks for atleast 30 minutes (preferably overnight) will allow for the marinade to soak deep into the fish.

With various forms of tuna caught in local Florida waters, you can use whichever species you happen to catch. If you can’t catch your own fresh tuna, you can always buy the frozen tuna steaks from your favorite grocery store. This recipe is a rather quick and simple one, even beginners can make a delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 Thickly Cut Fresh Tuna Steaks
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Orange Juice
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/4 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 1 Clove Garlic, Minced
  • 2 Tbsp Fresh Parsley, Chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Fresh Oregano, Chopped
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper

Directions

Prep: 45 min.|Cook: 10-15 min.|Yields: 4 Servings

  • In a large heavy plastic, metal or glass dish, combine the olive oil, OJ, soy sauce, lemon juice, pepper, garlic, parsley and oregano. Stir the ingredients until well mixed.
  • Place the tuna steaks in the liquid mixture. Flip to coat both sides. Cover with a lid or plastic wrap. Place the marinating steaks in the fridge for atleast 30 minutes. (you can do this the night or morning before)
  • Preheat your gill, griddle or frying pan to medium heat. Lightly oil your cookwear to prevent sticking. Remove the Tuna steaks from the fridge and place on your grill or in your pan. Cook for 5-6 minutes on the first side.
  • Now flip your steaks and baste them with some of the remianing marinade. Cook on this side for another 5-6 minutes or until cooked to desired temperature.
  • Due to the raw fish you will want to discard ANY remaining marinade.

Notes

As you can see, asparagus pairs really well with this marinated tuna steak recipe. Lucky for you, we also have this Parmesan Asparagus recipe in our Ingman Marine recipe book. Our Rosemary Roasted Potatoes would make for another delicious side dish, for you meat and potato lovers out there.

Once you have the base for a marinade it is easy to tweak and have fun with. If you want to add a little spice try adding some red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper. Want it to be more Asian? Add a little bit of some fresh ginger. Savory cooking is not a science, try and make it a little fun by swapping out some ingredients for other you enjoy.
