Tuna salad sandwiches are one of peoples favorite foods. Sure, almost everyone has had atleast 1 tuna salad sandwich made from canned or pouched tuna. Ingman marine is here to give this iconic sandwich a slight make-over!

Below is the recipe for tuna salad made from fresh tuna steaks, or frozen if you don’t have freshly caught tuna available. The use of fresh tuna steaks will give your tuna salad a more vibrant and authentic tuna taste, versus the already prepared and preserved tuna.

Ingredients

  • 4 Thickly Cut Fresh Tuna Steaks
  • 2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Sweet Relish
  • 1 Finely Diced Sweet Onion
  • 2 Finely Diced Celery Sticks
  • 1 Cup Mayo
  • 1 Tbsp Yellow Mustard
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste
  • Desiered Bread

Directions

Prep: 20 min.|Cook: 15-20 min.|Yields: 3-6 Servings

  • Place the vegetable oil in a large pan and drop the tuna stakes in. Cook on medium high heat for 10-15 minutes or until fully cooked, trying to flip the steaks only once.
  • Now with your steaks cooked, flake or cut apart. Set aside to cool.
  • In a bowl combine the mayo, mustard, relish, onion and celery. Mixing until incorporated. Once the tuna has cooled, toss with the mayo mix. Season with the salt & pepper to taste.
  • Spoon a healthy portion of tuna salad on your desired sandwich bread and serve.

Notes

The great thing about sandwiches is, they can be made in various ways, to anyone’s liking. You can increase the amount of mayo and mustard if this recipe is slightly too dry for you. Yellow mustard not your favorite? Try using Dijon mustard instead. Sweet relish not up your alley? Try dill relish.

Tuna salad sandwiches are great when topped with some lettuce, tomato and extra pickles. If you really want to get creative, add some banana peppers, jalapeno peppers, black olives, avocado, cheese or cucumber. Kick your sandwich up a notch by using a onion bun or potato roll instead of simple sliced bread.
