Cobia boats are owned by Maverick Boat Group, which has been part of Malibu Boats, a publicly traded company, since 2021. Maverick Boat Group bought the Cobia brand in 2005 from Yamaha Motor Corporation, adding it to a family that also includes Maverick, Hewes, and Pathfinder. Cobia itself is a long-running American boat name with roots going back decades. Today every Cobia is built at Maverick Boat Group's plant in Fort Pierce, Florida.
