Hewes boats are owned by Maverick Boat Group, which has been part of Malibu Boats, a publicly traded company, since 2021. Maverick Boat Group acquired the Hewes brand in 1989 and builds it alongside Maverick, Pathfinder, and Cobia at its plant in Fort Pierce, Florida. The Hewes name itself goes back to founder Bob Hewes, who started building flats skiffs in South Florida in the 1950s. Under Maverick Boat Group, Hewes has kept its reputation as a top flats and backcountry boat brand.
