Skeeter has one of the longest histories in fishing boats. The first Skeeter was built in 1948 by Holmes Thurmond in Shreveport, Louisiana, and its long, needle-shaped nose, like a mosquito, gave the brand its name. That first boat was molded marine plywood, but Skeeter became an early leader in fiberglass construction in the 1950s and 1960s. The company later moved to its current home in Kilgore, Texas, and built a reputation for fast, innovative bass boats. In 1996, Yamaha Motor Corporation acquired Skeeter, pairing the brand's boat-building with Yamaha engine power. Today Skeeter remains a top name in high-performance fishing boats.
